THE GIFT (2015) Review
“Good people deserve good things.”
A fresh take on psychological thriller films. You get to be part of how an experience is developed into fear that will haunt you for years. It’s fascinating how Joel Edgerton, the star and director of the film constructs the film through conversations and atmospheric tension that leads to destruction of a relationship from the inside. The Gift is a small film but a damn good one.
Giving the audiences big surprises from small packages, the film manages to be restrained and yet it gives you edge-of-your-seat sequences. You’ll hate Jason Bateman, sympathize with Rebecca Hall and be curious and mystified by Joel Edgerton. It may not be a horror film you would expect with ghosts or maybe a slasher film but The Gift has enough tense and thrills to distract your thoughts while watching it.
The Gift is now showing in Philippine cinemas nationwide from Octoarts Films International. Rated R-13 by the MTRCB.
