After topping the box-office worldwide, except China (which Warcraft took first place), the demonic nun in The Conjuring 2 is getting her own film, produced by none other than James Wan.
Director James Wan is both successful in pleasing the critics and the audience with his films like Insidious, The Conjuring and even the action thriller Fast and Furious 7. While he may have a lot on his plate right now (he’s directing the live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Aquaman), he also produce films on the side.
Just like the first Conjuring film, where a haunted doll made a lot of noise about the film made its own film, The Conjuring 2’s very own demonic nun is also being reported to have its own movie.
THR is reporting that Warner Bros. is moving forward with a Conjuring 2 spin-off titled The Nun, with Conjuring 2 co-screenwriter David Leslie Johnson (who’s also working with Wan with the Aquaman movie) attached to pen the script. Wan and Conjuring series producer Peter Safran are already lined up to produce The Nun – which, the title suggests, will revolve around the demonic nun character that plays a key role in the storyline of The Conjuring 2.
The Annabelle spin-off honestly, was a disaster. Though it was a box-office success, with just a $6.5 million budget, grossing more than $250 million worldwide, the film made the Annabelle doll in The Conjuring film less scary. But with filmmaking, a business to most of the people behind a movie, continuing with a low budget horror film that will most likely get a lot of money is the smartest thing to do.
Not that it makes the audiences dumb, but let’s face it, more money for the production companies means more chances of other films to be produced. James Wan is one of the most effective producers of low budgeted films out there. And being hopeful that The Nun will not turn out like Annabelle, is one thing the fans should be doing.
The Conjuring 2 is now playing in theaters. Annabelle 2 opens in theaters on May 2017.The Nun doesn’t have an official release date yet.
