The mysterious entity in Passenger is not a creature, says writer Zachary Donohue. “He doesn’t just come out and kill you. Part of his mythos is that he wants to torment you, to ride you the whole distance you can go, until you break down, literally,” often causing his victims to crash themselves into their own deaths.
If you’re up for a challenge and maybe in the mood to go beyond your comfort zone, Breakout Philippines brings to life the digital nightmare called Backrooms. This is in partnership with A24 and CreaZion Studios, in time for the Philippine release of the film adaptation, directed by Kane Parsons, the teenager who created the original viral YouTube videos. Right inside Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong, they’ve built an immersive escape room that offers a brief, terrifying glimpse into the liminal void.
“On location, a lot of people had scary experiences,” shares director André Øvredal in a new featurette for horror movie Passenger. In the film, after a young couple witnesses a gruesome highway accident, they soon realize they did not leave the crash scene alone, as a demonic presence called the Passenger that won’t stop until it claims them both turns their van life adventure into a nightmare.

The Deadites are back in the franchise’s most brutal experience to date in “Evil Dead Burn.” A tragedy turns into a nightmare in a secluded family home when a woman finds her family slowly turning into possessed abominations.
Look fear in the face. “Clayface” is DC Studios’ first horror thriller, directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, based on characters from DC. It stars Tom Rhys Harries as the titular Gotham City villain, with Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, as well as Nancy Carroll and Joshua James. “Clayface” opens in Philippine cinemas October 21.

Passenger, directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe), stars Lou Llobell (TV series Foundation), Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys for Life, Bad Boys: Ride or Die) and Oscar winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter). Passenger opens in the Philippines only in cinemas May 27.

Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville, the film stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, with Veronica Falcón.
This summer, GMA Pictures and Mentorque Productions bring a terrifying new Filipino horror experience to the big screen with “Huwag Kang Titingin,” a chilling story that fuses modern internet culture with deep-rooted folklore. In cinemas April 15.
