Arachnophobia Unlocked: ‘Crawlers’ Deliver a Skin-Crawling Horror Experience

Spiders are scary. Big spiders are even scarier, but a thousand regular-sized spiders? That is a chilling nightmare. The thought of creatures that small crawling across your floor, not just one or a dozen, but thousands, and potentially crawling under your skin is enough to make anyone’s stomach drop.

If you are expecting a stress-inducing time at the cinemas, Crawlers will deliver it with flying colors. The claustrophobic setting of a locked-down apartment building amplifies every scare. I was constantly shifting and uncomfortable in my seat watching eight-legged threats swarm across walls, drop from ceilings, and trap characters in tight, inescapable spaces like elevators. Director Ángel Gómez Hernández understands simple, visceral phobias and exploits them at every turn.

It is a great creature feature to watch with your friends, the more, the better. Scream with them, jump at every shadow, and laugh together during the moments of dark comedy sprinkled between the intense set pieces.

There may be familiar storylines, along with a few cheesy and cringe-worthy scenes, but the movie remains undeniably fun. It never pretends to be a complex psychological masterpiece; instead, it leans into high-energy survival horror. You get exactly what you expect: fast-paced chaos, skin-crawling visuals, and a wild ride from start to finish.

If you enjoy creature flicks, Crawlers is worth checking out in a crowded theater. Just make sure to check your seat before you sit down.

‘Crawlers’ is now showing exclusively at SM Cinemas as part of the Sine Sindak: The 7th Cycle. Rated R-13 by the MTRCB.
