MOVIE REVIEW: Bad Moms (2016)

BAD MOMS (2016) Review
Written and Directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore

From the writers of The Hangover, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore team up once again for the most hilarious female-centric since last year’s Spy starring Melissa McCarthy. It’s a relief that we got another comedy film worth seeing not just because it’s funny but also because it has something to say in the issues the story tackles.

For the first time, the story of the mothers, especially the single ones are told in a truthful but also hilarious way. Bad Moms centers Amy Mitchell (Mila Kunis), a hard-working mother of two and catches her husband is having something more than just a long-distance fun time with another woman. One day, she realizes she’s doing more than what she can but nothing seems to work, with her family and her career. So she decided to become a “bad mom” and meets Kiki (Kristen Bell) and Carla (Kathryn Hahn) and tagged them along with her “rebellious” phase of her life. But the three are in for more than just having a good time as they made a serious argument against the good but mean moms of the school their children are going to.

Bad Moms is surprisingly good and satisfying. Not just because it delivered with the laughs but also because it becomes honest at times as it address the sacrifices and the difficulties of being a mom. It’s a tribute to the mothers’ unconditional love for their families. The film is entertaining from start to finish, Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell does tremendous job with their characters but Kathryn Hahn is the scene stealer.

A good laugh is a guarantee in this movie whether you walk out of the cinemas liking it or not. There are similarities with Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids, not just with the all-female cast but also how the film resolved its complication. Bad Moms is a comedy with a heart and that is hard to come by nowadays.
