“2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten” Review: Raw, Dark and Twisted

2 COOL 2 BE 4GOTTEN (2016) Review
Directed by Petersen Vargas

A film that is packaged as a coming-of-age gay film, you wouldn’t expect it to go intense, dark and twisted.

So, how would you tell a coming-of-age story? Go deeply personal, that’s how director Petersen Vargas wants to tell the story of Felix Salonga, played by Khalil Ramos.

The shots give the film an atmospheric and at times depressing feeling, it takes you back to the time where gadgets aren’t the main source of entertainment or first option for games. It takes you to a scenic view of Angeles, Pampanga,  almost a decade after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. It takes you to the deep thoughts of Felix Salonga, where not only being an introvert is portrayed exceptionally but also getting to the phase where love, lust, and having interest in a person for more than just a friend happens.

This is not your usual coming-of-age film, this is not your usual LGBT-themed film, this is a very personal story that is acted raw, and will take you to a dark and twisted story. It will surprise and excite you, it will make you understand or feel how it was meeting your first love.

2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten is a rare coming-of-age film, it defies the usual falling-in-love formula. Heck, it defies the process of falling in love. It may not be for everyone, but whether you’re straight or gay or confused, the story will definitely have an impact on you, because more than love, this is a story about friendship.
