‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Review: Crowded but will leave you wanting more

DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE (2024) Review
Directed by Shawn Levy

The best thing about putting together Deadpool and Wolverine in one movie is their contrast. Wolverine who’s always too serious and Deadpool who likes to joke and takes serious issues with sarcasm, you actually don’t need other characters to have a story because they are already the story.

But since this is not just a Marvel movie, it’s also the introduction of two beloved Marvel characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it needs to go with a bang. Thankfully, it did not disappoint.

Deadpool & Wolverine will satisfy your Marvel fetishes. The characters presented in the film including the cameos are more than enough to keep you entertained, intrigued and wanting more. Credits to the performance of its leads, the film manages to be hilarious and at the same time engaging.

While visually it’s crazy to absorb all that’s happening especially the cameos, the film also feels crowded. Don’t get me wrong, give me all the Marvel characters in one movie and I’d still enjoy it but as a whole, you’re sometimes detached from the story and characters’ emotions and objectives because of all of what’s happening on the surface.

Emma Corrin’s Cassandra Nova looks scary with how the film presented her powers but it also feels like she’s underutilized. The film might actually have more focus if, like Avengers: Infinity War, the main protagonist of the story is the villain, which in this case is Cassandra.

But as I leave the cinema, I get to admit to myself that this film feels like it’s one of those rare events that’s almost impossible to happen. It worked, the chemistry between the two actors worked and how this story introduced their characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe makes one look forward to the possibilities Marvel can still offer in the future.
