HER LOCKET (2024) Review
Directed by J.E. Tiglao
There’s a lot of heart in J.E. Tiglao’s ‘Her Locket.’ While it may tackle a bit much with its multiple timelines, the focus lies in the sincerity of telling the story of Jewel Ouyang, played by Rebecca Chuaunsu.
You can say it’s a typical Chinese family drama, with themes like love, career and misunderstanding in the family. But when a filmmaker knows what story it wants to tell and how to tell that story, there’s confidence that the audience can see and feel. J.E. Tiglao’s ‘Her Locket’ weaves its story in a familiar but effective way. Presenting family issues heartwarmingly and reminding us the bittersweet journey of life and how fast time flies.
The film felt almost like a biographical movie that its main lead star Chuaunsu knows by heart. Her performance gives truth to the character it’s as if she was some grand mother you knew. Elora Espano is reliable as ever, giving more color to the story and Boo Gabunada compliments the cast with his lovely portrayal of a son who’s in between work and taking care of his mother with dementia.
The film ends with a warmth in your heart and realizations about how life is fleeting and how we should be more mindful of the things we do, especially to those whom we love.
