SINAGTALA (2025) Review
Directed by Mike Sandejas
The film only had about an hour and a half to establish the five main characters as a band and to tell their story. It ingeniously presents this through a montage-like coverage of their concert performance. From there, the ensemble already feels like a real band. The audience gets a sense of who they are as a group and the journey the film is about to unfold.
At first glance, the film seems to be just about band members and their individual dramas. But as it delves into their personal stories, you become inspired by their struggles and how their challenges uplift others.
Some scenes may feel a bit dragging and could use some trimming, but with Glaiza, Rhian, Arci, Matt, and Rayver’s performances, you’ll get through it just fine.
“Pag sikat ng araw, hanggang sa gabi…” Right after hearing ‘Laho’ from Sinagtala, I can say it stuck in my head. The film features impressive original songs performed by the cast members, and to make it even more outstanding, they also played the instruments during their performances.
At times, it might feel overwhelming to absorb everything happening, especially the heavier moments, but the film continuously presents its challenges with a sense of hope. One way or another, there’s something in Sinagtala that will move you.
