‘My Love Will Make You Disappear’ Review: Pinoy romcoms are totally back

MY LOVE WILL MAKE YOU DISAPPEAR (2025) Review
Directed by Chad Vidanes

Finally, Pinoy romcoms are totally back!

I know, they weren’t gone at all but ‘My Love Will Make You Disappear’ kind of reminds me of the romcom era of Bb. Joyce Bernal and Cathy Garcia-Sampana starring Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Toni Gonzaga. The film felt warm, and while the story feels familiar, the storytelling evolved.

With almost two decades in the industry, Kim Chiu continues to prove her versatility. From intense drama to lighthearted comedy, Kim shines in every role she’s given.

Her character, Sari, may initially come across as a textbook female lead in a Pinoy rom-com, but Kim manages to make the role her own, delivering a heartfelt performance that audiences can genuinely connect with. She’s a reliable actress through and through.

If Paulo Avelino’s smile could heal sickness, the whole cinema would be in great shape—that’s how affecting his smile is. He seamlessly transforms from an angry, antisocial man into the kind and approachable Jolo. His character’s transition is clearly felt throughout the movie. Paulo shows exactly why he remains one of the most sought-after actors in the industry today.

The film pulls out all the stops in presenting a charming, heartwarming, and distinctly Filipino story. My Love Will Make You Disappear is entertaining as a whole, but there’s a certain disconnect in its emotional journey. This is probably because Sari’s main dilemma is told from a third-person perspective, which makes the emotional impact less powerful than it could have been.

Still, the undeniable kilig that envelops the film makes up for its lack of lasting emotional weight, which, for many viewers, is exactly what they’re looking for.
