Thunderbolts* (2025) Review: A Heartfelt Marvel Adventure

THUNDERBOLTS* (2025) Review
Directed by Jake Schreier

Remember the time when we were excited to see a new Marvel film with a story that keeps on giving us characters that are fleshed out, not just to entertain but also to sympathize with? Marvel’s back with ‘Thunderbolts*.’

‘Thunderbolts*’ is an exciting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s fresh, but at the same time, it didn’t need to be different. Just good storytelling with characters that are relatable and fun to watch. And of course, big, action-packed scenes.

What makes ‘Thunderbolts*’ really work is its characters and how its cast portrays them. The ensemble led by Florence Pugh complements each other. They are not the ‘Thunderbolts*’ without Yelena or Walker or Ghost, etc. They may not have superpowers, but the dynamics among the characters will keep you glued to the screens. From their banters to their serious moments, the cast proves they are the perfect band of misfits.

There’s a fresh perspective through the direction of Jake Schreier. Even with some familiar characters and the film’s setting, Thunderbolts* continues to come up with surprises. I can’t remember the last Marvel movie this unpredictable.

What surprised me the most was its emotional impact during the film’s climax. There’s a lot to unpack, but what makes it special is how it tackles self-destruction as a coping mechanism. It really is a movie full of surprises, and it will catch you off guard with its moments that show comic book movies also have a lot of heart.
