BUY NOW, DIE LATER (2015) Review
Directed by Randolph Longjas
Quantum Films together with MJM Productions, Tuko Film Productions and Buchi Boy Films who gave us last year’s English Only, Please and the Jerrold Tarog groundbreaking historical film Heneral Luna quietly invades the Metro Manila Film Festival with two entries this year. Buy Now, Die Later is an interesting piece of horror-comedy. We’ve seen most that cannot pull-off this mix of genre but Buy Now, Die Later is neither.
The film starts with Vhong Navarro, I’m not sure if he intends to make his character act awkward but his and Rayver’s character doesn’t feel to be included in the story the people behind the film are creating until they needed a hero and an antagonist. It’s fun to watch, though. Especially the parts of John Lapus, Alex Gonzaga – Lotlot De Leon and Janine Gutierrez. Their characters seem to have been used more for the building of the story that they ended up being the most enjoyable parts of the film.
There are good sequences you might end up giving it a thought after leaving the cinema but the film struggles to find a solid core that it ends up being disappointing. It’s fun at some parts and the production really gave it time as its details are impressive. It’s half horrifying but definitely funny. Buy Now, Die Later is a treat for those who have an unusual taste that enjoys a bit of suspense in watching a comedy film.
