‘Evil Dead Rise’ Review: Bloody delightful

EVIL DEAD RISE (2023) Review
Directed by Lee Cronin

There’s a lot you can do with horror not just to scare. You can also make it a heartwarming drama, a campy entertaining blood fest or a supernatural horror that’s full of jump scares and will linger even after watching. But to be all of those three is rare which makes Evil Dead Rise exceptional.

A bloody delightful horror experience. Evil Dead Rise keeps on surprising, it keeps on presenting impressive sequences for the audience to absorb. The film scares but it also entertains, the performances of the actors are superb. You can’t just keep yourself from wanting to know what’s going to happen next.

I do hope Alyssa Sutherland gets recognition for her role here. I’m not sure how much in the film she was a CGI or if ever there was, but she nailed every look and every scene she’s in.

It may not be the scariest and has the most WTF moments like its predecessor, but everything in here feels well-presented. How the scares were mounted, it’s like the build ups were organic so everything, whether they’re believable or not, you’re just going to go with it. And as someone who really follows a character deeply, I like that in here.

I’m not sure if I wanted a different approach for a specific scene or for the whole film, but what I’m sure is I want more Evil Dead movies in the future.
