ALIEN: COVENANT (2017) Review
Directed by Ridley Scott
It’s been five years since the supposed to be Alien prequel Prometheus debuted in cinemas. It had received mix reviews but there’s no denying that Prometheus was one hell of a ride.
Ridley Scott returns to the horror sci-fi adventure in Alien: Covenant, the much awaited real Alien prequel, as advertised. But honestly, I liked Prometheus more.
The film is a proper pay off to its predecessor. While Prometheus boasts a solid build up, Alien Covenant gets to benefit from that build up and continue into something bigger but still familiar.
Covenant is a combination of Prometheus and the original Alien film. The body of the story resembles the journey of Prometheus while the horrors of the film are similar to Alien. Yes, the gore is back in the Alien franchise, and that was the result of the disappointed fans from Prometheus.
But there is a lot more missing here, we may have a bloodier Alien installment but the story of Alien: Covenant is too familiar and doesn’t surprise at all. The film is enjoyable at best, with Michael Fassbender’s magnetic performance and an interesting andnew adventure and thrills on their way, Alien Covenant puts Ridley Scott back on track on making the universe he built bigger.
