‘Home Along Da Riles: Da Reunion’ Review: A World Without Kevin Cosme

HOME ALONG DA RILES: DA REUNION (2026) Review

Directed by Boy 2 Quizon

More than nostalgia, Home Along Da Riles: Da Reunion understands the essence of its source material: the world with Kevin Cosme. So, what if Kevin Cosme is gone? How will the Cosmes turn out? How will the community in the riles turn out?

The story of the absence of that one person who turned their community into a family, along with the quirks of every beloved character, is compelling enough for the audience to fully invest in this emotional homecoming. It skillfully balances the deep void left by the late King of Comedy, Dolphy, while giving the surviving characters a meaningful reason to gather.

While the story may seem quaint, some scenes that are intentionally excessive drag the experience. It actually follows the classic formula of a family movie where the daughter (Bing, played by Claudine Barretto) is getting married to someone not yet approved of by the family (Pepe Herrera’s character). It’s chaotic, and at times confusing, perhaps a byproduct of trying to translate old-school 90s sitcom humor into a modern cinematic space, but it never forgets where its heart is. And that is the family.

Seeing Nova Villa, Claudine Barretto, Smokey Manaloto, along with Vandolph Quizon, Boy 2 Quizon, Maybelyn dela Cruz, and Dang Cruz all together feels like a gift. But Villa, Barretto, and Manaloto really stand out among the cast members. It honestly makes me want to see Claudine in more films; her screen presence remains immense.

It was probably a smooth job for Boy 2 Quizon as a director, working with all these talented actors who already share decades of organic chemistry. He succeeds not by trying to reinvent the wheel, but by honoring a legacy that still resonates across generations.

Ultimately, Home Along Da Riles: Da Reunion is less about cinematic perfection and more about the comfort of coming home. It serves as both a touching tribute to the late Dolphy and a poignant reminder that while times change and tracks get cleared, the bonds of the Cosme family remain unshakable. For anyone who grew up watching them on Thursday nights, this reunion isn’t just a movie, it’s a warm, albeit chaotic, embrace from old friends.
