From Festival Favorite to Box-Office Hit: ‘2 Valid IDs’ Nears ₱15M Nationwide

Fresh off its triumphant run at Cinemalaya 2026, the social drama 2 Valid IDs continues to make a powerful impact as it expands to theaters nationwide, with unofficial box-office estimates approaching ₱15 million.

Directed by Ma-an L. Asuncion-Dagñalan, written by Abet Pagdagdagan Raz, and executive produced by Geo Lomuntad, the film has drawn enthusiastic crowds and packed screenings across the country. Its success underlines a growing appetite among Filipino moviegoers for stories that confront systemic realities and reflect the daily struggles of ordinary citizens.

The movie stars Marietta Subong, Joey Marquez, Meryll Soriano, and Zaijian Jaranilla. At its core is Sylvia, a struggling rural farmer desperate to secure medical assistance for her hospitalized husband, Ramon—only to find her efforts stalled by the absurd hurdle of needing two valid IDs.

Since its nationwide release on October 14, the film has bridged gaps between diverse audiences, bringing students, families, and workers together while fueling urgent discussions on red tape and public service accessibility.

2 Valid IDs previously dominated Cinemalaya 2026, taking home Best Actress for Subong, the Special Jury Prize, and the Audience Choice Award.
