‘Locked’ is a slick suspense thriller that offers fewer visuals but manages to feel big. It might not have squeezed every possibility it can explore, but the end product is still entertaining and at times excruciating in a good way.
The film pulls out all the stops in presenting a charming, heartwarming, and distinctly Filipino story. My Love Will Make You Disappear is entertaining as a whole, but there’s a certain disconnect in its emotional journey. Still, the undeniable kilig that envelops the film makes up for its lack of lasting emotional weight, which, for many viewers, is exactly what they’re looking for.

At times, it might feel overwhelming to absorb everything happening, especially the heavier moments, but the film continuously presents its challenges with a sense of hope. One way or another, there’s something in Sinagtala that will move you.

With her screen presence, comedic timing, and ability to make you sympathize with her character, Jennylyn Mercado effortlessly transforms into her character, Imo. There’s a connection between her character and the audience every time she appears on the screen. Her humor and dilemma are infectious.

From afar, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is decent. It has the elements of a superhero blockbuster film and a story palatable for the casual audience. But you kind of miss the spectacle in Marvel movies, the connection with the characters and the satisfaction after watching them.
There are resemblances in Mufasa and the The Lion King but Barry Jenkins made it feel like a companion film to the original with breathtaking visuals and a heartwarming story. It may feel as if you’re revisiting the original film but there are bits in Mufasa that’s fresh and would make you consider it may have its own story to tell.

You can say it’s a typical Chinese family drama, with themes like love, career and misunderstanding in the family. But when a filmmaker knows what story it wants to tell and how to tell that story, there’s confidence that the audience can see and feel. J.E. Tiglao’s ‘Her Locket’ weaves its story in a familiar but effective way. Presenting family issues heartwarmingly and reminding us the bittersweet journey of life and how fast time flies.
HER LOCKET will have its wide release in Philippine cinemas starting January 22, 2025.
