BREAKTHROUGH (2019) Review
Directed by Roxann Dawson
There have been numerous faith-based Hollywood film released in the past years. But none that really gave me a heartbreak while watching it. But when I saw the trailer of ‘Breakthrough,’ I was like, “Damn, this is really powerful.”
And it was. At least some parts of it.
The film is your typical Christian family-centric movie. We get to see the Smith family’s daily lives, how their relationship is as a family and to their neighbors and friends. Until that one day that would test their faith in God and believe more in the power of miracles.
Though thinly-written, the effect of ‘Breakthrough’ is undeniable. The moment John falls down that icy lake, you’ll have a heavy heart. But you’ll also be filled with faith and with hope. And that’s the promise of the film.
You get to believe in miracles as well as this is based on a true story. There’s nothing amazing about its storytelling, it’s just that realizing this is fact-based, you start to realize that miracles do happen for some. And how lucky it is for them especially for their family to experience it.
