Ahead of its September 16 theatrical release, the team behind Edjop—the highly anticipated biopic of 1970s youth activist Edgar Jopson—is taking its promotional tour directly to Philippine universities. Through the youth-led Edjop Campus Conversations, the filmmakers and cast aim to foster genuine dialogue with students across the country rather than hosting a traditional press junket.
Directed by Katski Flores and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines, the film features an ensemble cast led by Elijah Canlas in the title role, alongside Jodi Sta. Maria as Joyette Jopson, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Kakie Pangilinan (in her acting debut), Cedrick Juan, Teroy Guzman, Gab Pangilinan, and Issa Litton.
Starting late August, the tour honors Jopson’s own approach as a prominent student leader and former president of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP), who was known for directly engaging people face-to-face.
“From the beginning, this was the goal… This felt very Edjop. I think this is how he would have campaigned for it himself,” said Flores, who is heading the film’s grassroots campaign. “Pupuntahan namin kayo para ikuwento ang buhay ng isang estudyanteng piniling makialam, tumayo at hindi sumuko.”
The program is not a film screening, but an interactive forum where students will view exclusive footage, speak with the filmmakers and cast, and reflect on themes of courage, conscience, and youth engagement today.
