The official trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Original series Balaraw gives viewers plenty to unpack ahead of its launch. From unsettling dreams that leave protagonist Sabina (Janine Gutierrez) with more questions than answers, to an island that refuses to yield its secrets, danger awaits anyone who dares to step foot on its shores.
Directed by Rae Red, this Philippine mystery-thriller series lands on Netflix on October 29, 2026.
Here is a closer look at what makes Balaraw a must-watch for mystery lovers.
The People of Babang Yawa
The official trailer offers an extended look into the island of Balaraw and the community that calls it home: the tribe of Babang Yawa. Shrouded in mystery, their uncommon way of life is woven into the very fabric of their existence, with cryptic traditions revealing themselves as you venture deeper into the island.
Their presence raises haunting questions: What kind of lives do they lead? What role will they play in Sabina’s search for her mother? And what are they willing to do to keep their community afloat and their secrets buried?
Sabina’s Connection to the Island
Sabina is haunted by an inexplicable pull—the exact force that once drove her mother away from the island, making her the only person ever known to successfully leave.
Now on her own quest for answers, Sabina questions her mother’s decision to return to the island, untangling mystery after mystery as she gets closer to the truth. What will she uncover when she finally arrives, and what will those revelations mean for her connection to the island?
An Island Shrouded in Mystery
Known to few and with its very existence debated by many, Babang Yawa is cut off from the rest of the world. Netflix’s Balaraw is tailored for audiences who love stories that keep them guessing and questioning what is real, holding your attention as you join Sabina’s search for answers until the very end.
The island is calling. Are you brave enough to answer?
