Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes reunites once more in the newest adventure of James Bond Spectre. The film picks up right after the events in Skyfall where M played by Judi Dench dies when a former MI6 infiltrates the agency and goes after them in a massive and stylish action finale. Now, examining how that film’s events affect Craig’s Bond not just professionally, but also personally, as he undertakes a mission to learn more about the eponymous global crime organization (and, in the process, unearth secrets about his past at the same time).
USA Today debuted new images and details about the women who cross paths with James Bond inSpectre. You can peruse over that material, below:
- Monica Bellucci (The Matrix trilogy) plays Lucia Sciarra, the widow of a recently-murdered Mafioso whose own life may be in danger. The character (as Bellucci puts it) “come from a man’s world, but when the attraction between [James and Lucia] takes place and she realizes her feminine power on him, then she trusts him to save her.”
- Naomie Harris reprises her Skyfall role as Eve Moneypenny, who in Spectre has settled into her role helping Agent 007 from behind a desk. Harris explains that Moneypenny’s missteps in Skyfall led her to reassess “what she wanted to do with the rest of her life, [so in ‘Spectre’] she wants to support [James] in a different way. There’s a maturity in that decision and a groundedness you see with her.”
- Léa Seydoux (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Blue Is the Warmest Color) plays Madeleine Swann, a doctor and daughter of a professional assassin, who“doesn’t want anything to do with [Bond]” when he first shows up at her clinic. Who wants to bet that Madeleine ends up getting pulled into 007’s latest mission, anyway?
- Stephanie Sigman (The Bridge) as Estrella, a mysterious individual whom Bond crosses paths with during his trip to Mexico in Spectre‘s opening sequence. Sigman is keeping fairly tight-lipped about the character, saying that “[Both Estrella and I] like to have fun and we’re joyful people. I found her really easy to play and go with the flow and just be me.”
A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.
Spectre features the same director (Sam Mendes), screenwriting team (John Logan, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade) and multiple supporting players (including, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw) as Skyfall, so the general expectation is that this new 007 movie ought to clear the same bar of quality (or close to it) as Mendes’ initial foray into the world of James Bond. Though, with the addition of intriguing new cast additions – Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), and Andrew Scott (Sherlock) among them – and more ties to the larger Bond universe,Spectre could prove to be something more special than even that.
Opening across the Philippines on Nov. 06, 2015, “Spectre” will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
