TAKLUB (2015) Review Directed by Brillante Ma Mendoza The events are tragic, we are all aware of that. Taklub has all Brillante Mendoza’s trademark in it; it stays away from being melodramatic, has that documentary feel and looks little but tackles big emotional situations. Aunor is great as always, acting as if she knows the …

SILONG (2015) Review Directed by Jeffrey Hidalgo and Roy Sevilla Ho A pretentious mystery thriller that has too many twists and plot holes to make it seem smart or at least effective. Pascual and Ramos are good, though. The film gets pretty messy when they start putting twists whenever they can. It keeps getting weak …
ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL (2015) Review Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon Embracing the awkwardness in a deeply moving tale of friendship. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl may be light for some but its emotions are encaged as the characters are in their sensitive phase of their lives. The story is as …

EVEREST (2015) Review Directed by Baltasar Kormákur A heart-stopping and heartbreaking film that doesn’t oversell the theatrics needed for a satisfying (3D) movie experience. Although few of the cast get to have a decent character development, its striking take on the 1996 Mount Everest tragedy is profound. The beautiful shots of the mountains justifies the contrast of …
RICKI AND THE FLASH (2015) Review Directed by Jonathan Demme Aside from Meryl Streep being awesome as always which is the main attraction here (in every film she stars, actually), Ricki and The Flash is ordinary and predictable. There’s a lot of charm and likeable sequences here that would make the film pleasant to watch. …
BORUTO: NARUTO THE MOVIE (2015) Review Directed by Hiroyuki Yamashita Simple but entertaining. Boruto: Naruto The Movie doesn’t try hard like the recent Naruto Movies that came to Philippine cinemas. It’s not a film adaptation just for the fans, aside from impressive action sequences, the film also invests in its story for tackling about family and …

SINISTER 2 (2015) Review Directed by Ciaran Foy The film is surprisingly tame. All the dangers that built the suspense in the first one isn’t felt here anymore. Sinister 2 is ordinary, it does have an interesting premise going back to the roots of Bughuul but it doesn’t pay off. The film sure does have …
HENERAL LUNA (2015) Review Co-Written and Directed by Jerrold Tarog “Bayan o Sarili?” It’s hard to absorb its opening sequence as it is one of the busiest you’ll see but not that it’s bad, the film welcomes you in an unpleasant and intense gathering as to make the dispute feel authentic. Heneral Luna is big, …
MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS (2015) Review Directed by Wes Ball While everything feels repetitive at times, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials continues to be crazy, thrilling, suspenseful and entertaining. The Gladers can’t seem to shake their tail off WCKD, following them even if they’re out of the maze. Things get interesting as they go …

EX WITH BENEFITS (2015) Review Petty and insensitive. Ex With Benefits doesn’t try to be different from other Star Cinema sexy romantic comedy films. It squeezes in too many dramas that it already feels like a tired telenovela. Even the jokes or attempt for humor is either corny or inconsiderate. Ramsay and Garcia almost has …
